Bazaar Story: Israel Shalom

(São Paulo, Brazil)

Tucked away in the outskirts of São Paulo, youth are pressured to join a gang. Living in a poor community, gangs offer community and a means to earn money for food and rent. Israel Shalom helps at-risk kids see a path forward beyond poverty and gang violence as they are exposed to music education and ballet with a Christian focus. Many of these youth have their lives–and life trajectories–transformed by the gospel and involvement in the arts.

The majority of volunteers graduated from the program and returned to invest into the lives of these youth. As graduates pour into the ministry, they serve as role models and foster hope to as-risk kids that they too can stay off the streets and away from the pull of gangs.

Pray for the children’s hearts to be gripped by the Lord and for them to grow in faith, resulting in transformed lives.

In addition to prayer, here are tangible ways to provide for Israel Shalom as they minister to these kids

  • Sheet music: Your gift will provide sheet music for use during instrument lessons and group singing.
  • Ballet shoes and costumes: Your gift will provide an impoverished child with ballet shoes and dance costumes which they can’t afford. Children will learn to dance alongside the truth of the gospel.
  • Guitars: Your gift of guitars will accompany voices as they sing praise to the Lord during group singing and instrument lessons.
  • Recording and Sound Equipment: Your gift will allow Israel Shalom to record music and teach children recording skills. This gift allows children to create performance tapes and provides the opportunity to learn a skill that can be used in a variety of occupations.
  • Where most needed: Your gift will be used where it is most needed to bless the work.
