Ministry Update: MISIUR (Peru)
MISIUR operates two after-school programs, serving 100 children and youth each day. These programs create a safe place away from gang violence where children are fed physically and spiritually.
MISIUR continued faithful ministry throughout 2025, serving nutritious meals, academic support, spiritual formation, vocational training, medical campaigns, and community development initiatives.
The Juan Calvino Biohuerto (Organic Garden) is located in San José de los Molinos, Ica district. Participants from CEDIN NJA learn to cultivate organic vegetables using artisanal fertilizer from the project’s chicken farm, promoting sustainable practices and reflecting responsible care of creation.
CEDIN San Genaro serves 60 children and adolescents, plus 30 adults in vulnerable situations, with healthy Monday-Friday lunches. These are aimed at preventing malnutrition and anemia, improving school performance, and guaranteeing nutritious food. Beginning in May 2025, Chorrillos Municipality granted a monthly subsidy, strengthening the Presbyterian dining hall’s work. Daily “Alimento para el Alma” (Food for the Soul) devotionals share reflections with families. Heidelberg Catechism lessons teach about earthly comfort versus eternal comfort offered by God through Christ.
In the past several months, the young people studied through the book of Ecclesiastes, addressing topics such as the fragility of life, the value of work, and the purpose of life, to fear God and obey his commandments. They participated in an arts and Scripture memory program designed to encourage the reading and memorization of Scripture. Families were also invited to a Thanksgiving service that included a testimony from one of the teens on the importance of Bible reading and a pastoral reflection from the book of Luke, highlighting the call to pay attention to the word of God.
