Ministry Update: Israel Shalom (Brazil)

The ministry of Israel Shalom is making a profound impact in the Brasilândia community of São Paulo, Brazil, by using music, dance, and Christian ethics classes to develop at-risk children and adolescents. Over the past twenty years, it has reached over 2,000 young people, giving them a new outlook on life.

The ministry’s key goal is to use different elements of the culture, including music and dance and even sports, to share the gospel. It hopes to gain the students’ attention and point them towards the abundant life that only the gospel can provide.

One newer partnership for Israel Shalom is with the Meninos do Guaras project, a soccer evangelism project with tournaments throughout São Paulo. Through this partnership, the ministry has been able to reach many more families, building relationships, creating safe spaces for young people, and regularly sharing the gospel. The Meninos do Guara team even won two significant titles this year!

In October, Israel Shalom helped to organize a Children’s Day event for around 2,000 people (children and their families). In addition to providing hot meals and gifts for the kids, the event included appearances by artists and a member of parliament. It concluded with a time of gospel music, prayer, and prayers for the families gathered.

The ballet classes are currently rehearsing for an upcoming January performance in a local theater. Israel Shalom is praying for the Lord to provide two more volunteer teachers so that the classes can be split up.
