Every Gift Has a Story: Bangladesh Hope (Bangladesh)
Bangladesh is a South Asian country with a population of over 165 million people, making it one of the most densely populated nations in the world. It is also considered an “unreached” people group, with only about 0.2% of the population identifying as Christian. This presents a daunting challenge and a profound opportunity for the gospel to transform lives and communities.
It is in this context that Bangladesh Hope emerged as a beacon of hope 23 years ago, dedicated to proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and bringing transformation to the people of Bangladesh.
Over 25 years ago, the Lord saved a young Dalit man named Phelip, giving him a heart for evangelism and the church. As a young pastor in 2002, he and a few other men began to form small cell groups in nearby villages. Over time, this ministry has expanded to address both spiritual and humanitarian needs. It continues to grow disciples through Bible studies and church planting, but it has also added a Christian primary school to serve underprivileged communities and boys’ and girls’ orphanages to provide care, education, and spiritual mentorship.
Bangladesh Hope currently oversees over 30 churches and has a vision for planting at least 25 more, with the goal of seeing the Lord build self-sustaining, self-governing, and self-propagating churches in every unreached community in Bangladesh that will embody Christ’s love, serve their communities, and multiply disciples.
The heart of Bangladesh Hope’s ministry is the children in its care. Its boys’ and girls’ homes are currently caring for over 30 young people. Blessing Home houses 16 boys who attend classes and actively join in worship, Sunday school, family prayer, and evangelistic visits. Blessing Home 2 houses several college-aged young men who, alongside their studies, are serving faithfully in worship and community outreach in their local church. Grace Home houses 12 girls, whose joy and enthusiasm are a blessing to the church congregation.
