Ministry Update: Love Link (El Salvador)

Love Link is a remarkable ministry in El Salvador that has been transforming the lives of severely malnourished infants and children for over 35 years. During that time, it has cared for over 3,500 babies who would have otherwise faced a grim fate due to malnutrition.

At its baby house, Love Link’s doctors, nurses, and caregivers work tirelessly to restore these precious children to health. Through specialized nutrition, medical treatment, and loving care, babies who were once on the brink of death are brought back to vibrant life. Love Link’s ministry holds out more than just physical healing – it also shares the love and hope of Jesus Christ with the families, leading many to faith in the process.

By the end of summer, Love Link had admitted seven new babies, all in different stages of severe malnutrition. While it is a blessing for these children to be sent to Love Link to be cared for, this is an extremely difficult time for their families. It is heartbreaking to be separated from their children, especially when they are so sick. Love Link’s staff seeks to comfort and encourage the families at each visitation. They spend time explaining the recovery process and answering any questions the parents might have. They also work to educate them on nutrition and hygiene so they will be prepared when their children return home.

In July, Love Link hosted a short-term missions volunteer from Oakseed. Abby spent three weeks at Love Link and had the opportunity to be involved in each of its programs. She helped to care for the admitted babies and prepare the children who came to the medical nutritional check-ups. She also assisted the medical teams at the nutritional medical brigades and feeding centers in San Salvador and other remote areas.

Love Link also hosted a missions team from First Baptist Church of Opelika, AL. The team worked on repairs at one of Love Link’s feeding centers and the baby house. They also hosted activities for youth in some of the local schools, sharing the gospel while encouraging faithfulness and perseverance in their studies. The team ministered to the babies in the baby house and their families and also spent time encouraging and praying with Love Link’s staff and volunteers.
