Ministry Update: Reformed Heart Orphans Center (Kenya)

Reformed Heart Orphans Center (RHOC) is dedicated to rescuing and caring for orphans. At RHOC, the orphans are provided with food, shelter, clothing, education, medical care, and most importantly, the life-changing message of the gospel. Currently, RHOC is caring for over 35 children directly and many more in the community in various ways.

Two of RHOC’s children graduated earlier this year and, with the Lord’s provision and care, have started university programs this fall. Martha is studying for an education degree, and Emily is enrolled in a nursing program. Twelve students are in high school this year, and several are set to graduate in the next year or so.

Another 25 children are in primary levels at school. Several of them have been able to start attending the newly formed Reformed Heart Comprehensive School. It has been a blessing to have the children able to attend school in their community and to receive teaching that theologically aligns with what RHOC’s directors and church teach them at home. As additional phases are completed at the school, all of the children should be able to transition there in the next few years, which will be a blessing, both financially and spiritually.

In answer to prayers, RHOC’s director shares that the Lord seems to be working in many of the children’s hearts, growing those who have professed faith in Christ and bringing several others to repentance and faith. One of the blessings of living at RHOC is the family devotional times in the evenings, when the kids, directors, and other adults from their church gather together to worship and study God’s word. The children have also had the opportunity to attend reformed youth conferences put on by sister churches over the years, enjoying teaching and fellowship. Because transportation costs can be high for so many children, their local church is formulating a plan to host an annual youth conference. This will enable more of RHOC’s children to attend and also be an opportunity for community outreach.

How to Pray for Reformed Heart Orphans Center

• Praise the Lord for his provision for and help with the school construction project! In only a little over a year, the first three phases, Preschool 1 through grade 6 and a library, have been completed! Pray for swift completion of Phase 4 (grades 7-9 and a laboratory) as well, so that all of the children can transfer into the school. Pray for additional qualified teachers and increased enrollment as the construction wraps up.
• Pray for the spiritual well-being of all of the children and young people at RHOC. Praise God for keeping and growing those who have come to Christ, and pray for Him to bring all of them to repentance and faith.
• Pray for wisdom and help in planning the youth conference.
• Pray for the Lord to protect and give wisdom to the directors, staff, and church as they seek to faithfully shepherd the children in their care.
• Pray for the Lord to continue to provide for the children’s needs.
• Pray for the Lord to protect and keep the high schoolers while they are away at their respective boarding schools. Pray for wisdom and direction for each of them for their futures.
• Pray for the Lord to protect and grow Emily and Martha while they are at university.
