Ministry Update: Morning Light (Ethiopia)
Morning Light is a Christian non-profit working to transform the lives of disadvantaged children and their families in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It focuses on improving daily living conditions by providing essential services, including nutritious food, access to education, income-generating activities for mothers, and basic healthcare. Weekly Bible studies, counseling, and gospel-centered programs point families to hope in Christ.
Morning Light’s tutoring classes continued through the summer, but it also added a summer enrichment program, covering subjects such as character development, English, games and physical activities, and life skills. The goal of these times was to equip students with critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and strong ethical values.
In the fall, the government schools will provide academic tutors to cover many of the subjects Morning Light has previously covered with the kids. This will free Morning Light to shift its focus towards character development and life skills training.
A highlight of the summer for the students was a one-day trip about eight hours out of the city, focused on Bible teaching, spiritual growth, and recreational activities.
Every other month, Morning Light seeks to enhance food security and promote community well-being by distributing flour and cooking oil to families. Before the start of the school year, it also provided hygiene and school supplies to the children. Despite increasing inflation in Ethiopia, which is making it more difficult to obtain supplies, the Lord has been faithful to provide for Morning Light to continue to bless its community in this way.
