Ministry Update: Hanna Orphan’s Home (Ethiopia)
Between orphaned residents and local children, Hanna Orphan’s Home (HOH) serves over 200 children in dire situations by providing safe housing, education, healthcare, and the opportunity to hear the gospel. House parents and staff create a community of love where children experience a stability many have never known.
HOH’s goal is to reach children and families with the gospel and disciple them in Christian faith. Children participate in daily devotions, weekly church services, and consistent Bible teaching. Many children come to personal faith in Christ during their time at HOH.
During summer break, HOH runs a summer program for the kids, providing tutoring, arts, sports, meals, and, most importantly, preaching and teaching from God’s Word. Last month, HOH welcomed a missions group from the US, who hosted a week-long VBS-type program, teaching about biblical character traits and reinforcing the teaching with various activities. Over the first three days, the kids learned that God uses ordinary people, obedience is evidence of trust, and becoming more like Christ involves the fruit of the Spirit. On the last day, different missions team members shared testimonies with the kids.
HOH’s director shared:
“One of the greatest encouragements was seeing students actively participate, ask thoughtful questions, and engage in meaningful discussions. The gospel resonated across different faith backgrounds; children from Muslim, Orthodox Christian, and Protestant backgrounds participated respectfully throughout the lessons. Despite their different religious experiences, they were attentive, asked questions, and engaged in discussions centered on God’s Word. It was encouraging to see Biblical truth presented in an environment where every student felt welcome to learn.”
How to Pray for Hanna Orphan’s Home
- Please pray that the Lord will continue to nurture the seeds planted during the summer program and especially during the VBS week.
- Pray for wisdom and creativity as HOH’s directors seek to build upon this foundation as the ministry heads back into the school year.
