Ministry Update: CEMIPRE (Chile)

CEMIPRE’s mission is to reduce the impact of disability by addressing the spiritual, emotional, and physical consequences of blindness and to integrate those with special needs into the church, society, and work. One aspect of this ministry involves outings and trainings that help participants learn how to navigate public spaces with confidence. Another aspect teaches participants how to accomplish everyday tasks or learn new skills that might seem insurmountable because of reduced sight.

Over the summer, ten visually impaired individuals participated in eight training sessions teaching basic inclusive massage therapy techniques. Guided by a massage therapy teacher and a visually impaired professional, they grew in confidence and skill, receiving diplomas upon graduation from the program. The training culminated in community days, where they provided massages to neighbors and leaders.

CEMIPRE’s users also had the opportunity to participate in a poetry workshop taught by a local poet. A local musician helped them to create songs to different rhythms, encouraging creative expression and challenging their sense of rhythm and timing.

CEMIPRE’s occupational therapy students led an adapted physical activity workshop, bringing fun and enjoyment to therapy exercises by adding in music and movement.

How to Pray for CEMIPRE

  • Please pray for the Lord to grow CEMIPRE’s users in confidence and show them that they are precious in His sight, created in His image, and worthy of dignity.
  • CEMIPRE hosts rotations of occupational therapy students each semester. Please pray for the Lord to use CEMIPRE to impart a deeper understanding of the gospel and what it means to be created in the image of God, in addition to skills in working with the visually impaired.
