Ministry Update: Jars of Oil Mission Africa (Uganda)

Jars of Oil Mission Africa’s mission is to transform lives by sharing the love of Christ in word and deed. Its focus is on supporting some of Uganda’s most vulnerable members: orphans, single mothers, and grandmothers caring for orphaned children.

JOMA provides crucial educational support by covering school fees for these vulnerable children, whose caregivers often struggle with meeting the financial demands of schooling. JOMA’s intervention ensures that these children not only have a roof over their heads and loving care from their grandmothers but also access to education, helping open doors of opportunity that would otherwise remain closed. This dual support system – aiding the orphaned children and their grandmother caregivers – exemplifies JOMA’s comprehensive approach to community development and its commitment to spreading Christ’s love through tangible acts of compassion.

JOMA also shares the gospel through outreach activities, providing essential items such as food, clothing, and bedding to impoverished families. Its work goes far beyond material assistance, however. JOMA creates opportunities for prayer, fellowship, and Bible study, fostering spiritual growth and hope in communities facing challenging circumstances.

Many of the grannies are in desperate need of housing repairs or entirely new homes. Over the years, JOMA has been able to help with both, conducting repairs where able and constructing new homes for several of the grannies and their families. In addition to providing shelter for these families, having a home of their own provides ongoing comfort and security for grandchildren in the event of a granny’s death. JOMA is currently seeking to obtain clearances to begin construction on another granny’s house this fall.
