Meet MISIUR

Misión Integral Urbano Rural (MISIUR) improves the quality of life for poor children and their families in Peru through comprehensive spiritual and physical care. MISIUR operates two after-school programs, serving 100 children and youth each day. These programs create a safe place away from gang violence where children are fed physically and spiritually. The children participate in Bible studies, tutoring, physical activities, and counseling. Parents are also provided with Bible studies and counseling, emphasizing building healthy family relationships.

MISIUR believes that education is a tool that transforms the lives of individuals, families, and the nation. Its programs are designed to supplement state academic instruction while also training the children in social skills and biblical values. These programs address the children’s emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth and include social skills workshops, training in ethical Christian values, Bible story workshops and daily devotionals, community service opportunities, and homework counseling. The children receive tutoring in reading and math skills, supplemented by games, songs, and special activities.

MISIUR staff are working through the Heidelberg catechism in Bible time with the students. They produce daily virtual devotionals for parents, encouraging them to read and pray together as families. Parents have indicated that these devotionals have been helpful, providing resources for spiritual growth and discussion within their families.

MISIUR holds several workshops each year, including a “Decision Making” one, in which participants learn how to make wise choices to equip them to grow in personal responsibility and understand the consequences of individual choices. Another workshop focuses on conflict resolution and centers around discussions about empathy, listening, and dialoguing respectfully. Seminars for parents focus on strengthening familial relationships. MISIUR also offers counseling services to kids and families to improve family relationships.

According to The World Bank, one in three women in Peru will experience domestic violence. Violence against women and girls has sweeping impacts, including exclusion from the social and economic dynamics within their communities. MISIUR provides training within communities to raise awareness about domestic violence. The ministry offers workshops for parents and home health visits and helps establish effective communication between kids and parents.
