Ministry Update: CEMIPRE (Chile)

CEMIPRE is transforming the lives of individuals with vision impairment in Chile. Every service offered – from occupational therapy and speech/language therapy to Braille instruction and computer literacy training – is infused with the message of God’s love and the value and dignity of each person, rather than focusing solely on their disability.

CEMIPRE recently held a Jazz Night concert. A professional drummer from the church offered to bring two friends to play a benefit concert for CEMIPRE, and several church members volunteered services and time. They played to a sold-out audience, including many new attendees, providing an opportunity to share CEMIPRE’s mission and provide visibility in the community.

CEMIPRE shared a story about a woman who recently returned to her place of employment after losing vision about a year ago. She had been low-vision for a while and was still able to complete her job writing contracts for businesses. However, she then completely lost her vision and thought her life was finished. After finding out about CEMIPRE, she came and worked hard for a year learning braille, adaptive technology, mobility, and how to use the white cane. Now she has hope and has returned to her former employer.
