Ministry Update: Semear (Brazil)
Its urban agriculture program teaches sustainable gardening, language learning, and nutrition to adults and children in several gardens around the city while sharing the gospel and discipling believers through garden programs for young children and adults.
This arm of the ministry emphasizes five areas: faith in God, education, culture, sustainability, and sport.
In the past year, Semear’s staff and volunteers spent regular time discussing the gospel with the kids and discussing what it means to live by faith and obey the Lord. They have taken them on special field trips, including visits to a ropes course, an indoor playground, and a sushi restaurant. They regularly lead the kids in volunteer work in their community, whether painting new chairs and tables for their classroom space, revitalizing garden areas, or cleaning up and rebuilding playgrounds. Wednesdays are physical training days, and the kids have been able to learn and hone soccer (football) skills, ride bikes on city trails, participate in a running club, and take tennis lessons. Through these activities, Semear presents the gospel to young people, disciples believers, and trains the kids to be salt and light by being good citizens who bless their community.
