Ministry Update: Lily of the Valleys (Brazil)

Lily of the Valleys is a Christ-centered therapeutic community in Catanduva, Brazil, that provides holistic treatment and rehabilitation for women struggling with drug addiction. Founded over 30 years ago, this ministry has been a beacon of hope, transforming the lives of countless women and their families through the power of the gospel.

Lily has been offering a weekly craft workshop for residents. The staff has noticed a marked reduction in anxiety, as the focus on manual work and creativity calms minds, stimulates patience, and develops self-discipline to follow instructions. It also strengthens bonds between residents, develops talents, and provides a creative outlet.

The women who come to this community are not just treated for their physical addictions but are also ministered to spiritually. Through intensive discipleship, Bible study, and prayer, the staff and volunteers at Lily of the Valleys guide these women towards true freedom and restoration.

Lily’s director shares about the primary importance of the gospel in therapy:

“The effect of spirituality in therapeutic communities acts as a powerful recovery resource, helping individuals to define their traumas and find a purpose in life. The practices promote self-knowledge, the building of new bonds, and the development of spiritual intelligence, acting in the prevention of relapses. This is the most important topic, as it acts directly on the spirit, soul, and body, and past, present, and future. Truly, spirituality promotes the recovery of the chemically dependent by restoring their purpose in life, reducing existential emptiness, and strengthening emotional resilience. It is through spirituality in treatment that we present, in the light of the Holy Bible, the Plan of Salvation through Our Lord Jesus Christ.”
