Ministry Update: Hogar Emanuel (DR)
In the impoverished municipality of Quisqueya, Dominican Republic, Hogar Emanuel stands as a beacon of hope, transforming the lives of children and families through the power of the gospel as it serves the most vulnerable members of its community – those with physical, emotional, and intellectual disabilities. Many of these children come from non-Christian homes, but through the tireless efforts of the dedicated staff, they are introduced to the life-changing message of the gospel.
Hogar Emanuel rejoices to share the Lord’s continued goodness in providing for the school. This past school year, the school served 203 students from pre-K to 10 th grade, and there is already a substantial wait list for the fall. A growing student body creates the need for more space, and the Lord has provided for additions to its building, so it now has 14 classrooms and several other offices and community spaces.
One community space is an area for orientation and counseling meetings. The Lord has provided a godly team of staff, including two pastors and two psychologists, who meet daily with students and their families as needed.
Last month, some of Hogar Emanuel’s students participated in the District Arts Exhibition. A group of eight girls presented a praise dance, and three girls participated in a live painting presentation. The director writes, “We are so proud of these students; they did an amazing job. God has given such talent amongst our students.”
