Ministry Update: Hannah House Family (Burundi)
After visiting with the children and staff in the orphanage in Bunjumbura, they met with three graduates of Hannah House Family’s tailoring training classes who now have their own tailoring shops. Though they have to rent their machines, the women rejoice to be able to earn an income and help support their families. Pastor Oluoch shared the gospel with them and the gathered neighbors, imploring them to come to Christ.
A few days later, Pastor Oluoch and his wife were invited to the graduation ceremony of the most recent six-month tailoring class, where he again had the opportunity to share the gospel with the 60 people gathered. He comments, “This was a wonderful ceremony with the 19 graduates beaming with happiness. This sewing project is surely making a change in the ladies of HH.”
Hannah House Family’s director took them to Chibitoke, one of the poorest communities in Burundi, where Hannah House Family has recently opened a second tailoring training center. They observed a sewing class of 20 eager students, working in shifts at the five new sewing machines provided through Oakseed bazaar funds. His wife shared gospel-centered parenting advice with the gathered women, and Pastor Oluoch presented a gospel message to the group of about 100 women and children.
Afterward, Pastor Oluoch and his wife helped serve a meal to the gathered children. These children are growing up in abject poverty, and one consequence is that their mothers often have little food to give them. Hannah House Family’s director recognizes that bodies, as well as souls, must be fed, and he works to raise funds to provide porridge and bread to the children of Chibitoke regularly.
