Meet Royal Nest

Liberia’s government cannot provide educational resources to the poor, so Mission Bethel Church stepped into this void by starting Royal Nest Awareness Christian Academy, a tuition-free Christian school for impoverished children in the slums of Monrovia, Liberia. The gospel is shared in the classroom through Christ-centered curriculum, and school employees conduct home visits. Through this ministry, children and families are exposed to the gospel and folded into the church for fellowship and discipleship.

Royal Nest helps 500 underprivileged children break the cycle of poverty through education. Each year, Royal Nest hosts community outreach days on Liberia’s Independence Day (July 26) and Christmas Day where 300 community children gather for a meal, clothing distribution, and special gifts. The ministry also hosts a soccer program so children can develop positive friendships and cultivate team-building skills. Royal Nest’s ongoing generosity to the community directs families to the gospel and the local church.

Liberia, located in West Africa, is bordered by Sierra Leone, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, and the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the world’s poorest countries and, while poverty rates in the capital city of Monrovia are improving somewhat, slums and rural areas suffer an overwhelming 81% poverty rate. In addition, Liberia’s life expectancy is among the lowest in the world, with only about five percent of the country’s population living to be older than 60.

At Royal Nest, the gospel is proclaimed in just about every parent-teacher and assembly meeting, with the goal of bringing parents to Christ and incorporating them into the church. The staff are passionate about serving the children, and the school is well-known in the community for its compassion.
