Ministry Update: HOH (Ethiopia)

Dr. Rick Horne, Oakseed Ministry Liaison to Africa, recently visited HOH . He shared that HOH’s goal is to reach children and families living in this area of poverty with the gospel. Communism no longer controls this region, so there is a great deal more openness for Christians to work and serve, but there are still threats to the work that HOH’s directors regularly pray for and ask for prayer for.

The original orphan focus is still active but has a smaller proportion of the student population as the kids are growing up and graduating. The dominant need of the region is for ministry to the poor, the “least of these”, who live there. So about 90% of the students (now numbering about 170 and increasing weekly) are from poor families, often led by single moms. HOH is trying to address young people and their families with gospel love and truth through its family, health, and vocational training programs and material support efforts. Graduates from HOH have often, more than rarely, become true followers of Christ through these programs.
