Helping Children Succeed through the Love of God

In Peru, the national rural poverty rate exceeds 50%. The nation is in constant turmoil from poverty, migration, and overcrowding. The problems with gang and family violence are growing to alarming proportions as well as drug addiction, alcoholism, and internet gambling. Add to these a low and failing educational system and the end result produces poverty-stricken children who are neglected and at an insurmountable risk of failing at life. They are disadvantaged before they’ ve even had a chance to try.

MISIUR stepped in as a hope and a safe harbor for many children in San Jose De Los Molinos, Region Ica, Peru and San Genaro, Chorrillos, Lima, Peru.

History

MISIUR (the Integral Urban Rural Mission), was formed on March 18, 1989. Its first projects were to support displaced families who were the victims of violence due to terrorism. They worked hard at relocating them in the high forests of the Department of San Martin in a place called Peace and Hope. Through the years they have made it their mission to develop several projects to help and care for children and families in poverty and crisis.

For 22 years, MISIUR has helped countless young men and women who have now graduated and are witness to this life changing program. Through, MISIUR, poor children and families are fed physically and spiritually. MISIUR also provides them with education and social and emotional support.

Today, MISIUR is led by Pastor Roger Araujo Solano. The ministry has become an important entity in diffusing volatile situations and promoting the church in numerous places throughout Peru. They have developed a series of lectures on missions, as well as studies of the world from the Biblical perspective, to be used in several departments throughout the country. MISIUR has also established links between the different evangelical denominations and educational organizations of Peru.

Through its Institute of Christian social studies, MISIUR has created a safe space for education. They teach social Christian thought from a Protestant perspective and provide Evangelical leadership training. They have even published leading books and magazines to motivate Christians to join the work of missions.

Stories

The proof of the ministry is the happy, healthy, and spiritually saved children that MISIUR has helped:
  • Meet Lidia:
  • Lidia came to MISIUR via the San Genaro location at the age of 7. She was orphaned by 10 years old. MISIUR provided her a healthy space for her educational, spiritual, emotional, and nutritional growth. She accepted Christ at the age of 14. Since then, she has been an active member of the Presbyterian Church and has earned her nursing degree. She now works at a hospital in Lima. This wonderful young woman is a thriving example of overcoming poverty and succeeding in life.
  • Next, meet Jessica:
  • Jessica arrived at the San Genaro location at the age of 7, as well. Her father was a watchman and her mother worked as a cleaner. MISIUR provided help for Jessica’ s education elementary grades through high school. She accepted Christ into her life and at the age of 16, she became a member of the Presbyterian Church. She studied Business Administration and now has a promising career. She is such a shining example of perseverance in the face of adversity.
  • Finally, there’ s Sonilda:
  • Sonilda came to MISIUR in 2011. She belongs to one of the poorest families in the district. Her mother is illiterate, her father an alcoholic. She has six small brothers. She lived with her family in a hut without light, water, or sewage. Her hair was infected by fungus and her health was very poor. She did not have the ability to read. Through MISIUR, she has received support and special assistance.

Now Sonilda enjoys life. She has nutritious food to eat. She thanks God for the food and the love of a group of children her age at the mission. Together they share the love and power of God, which motivates them to change their life of extreme poverty. Sonilda loves the staff at MISIUR. She prays to God, has learned to read, and loves the stories of the Bible. MISIUR has also helped her family deal with the authorities and has also improved their housing situation.
